“Salesians in the Secular World” – SSW is the fraternity of the sons of Don Bosco
(alumni of Salesian formation houses) living the lay vocation in the Secular world. It is
a gathering of the ex-Salesians and Aspirants who attended Salesian formation
houses with a desire to follow Jesus in the Don Bosco way, but accepting God’s plan
has responded to the lay vocation of leading family life in the world. SSW is a joyful
& grateful witness- to the love and formation that we have received from Don Bosco.
WHY SSW?
There are Past Pupils/Alumni association and many other forms and why add another
is a question raised. What is going to be the Special activity of this group? Are the
other associations (in which we are members), active and doing good? Why multiple
groups?
Well,
“A Grateful Boy is a Holy Boy.” These words of Don Bosco heard over and over again
in the Chapels and during good night talks and in the good manners class comes
ringing into my mind, as I think of “my life with Don Bosco” at the Aspirantate or at
Pre-novitiate or in higher seminary.
For anyone of us who reflects on “What Don Bosco been for me &What Don Bosco
has done for me”, the answer would be I am what I am because of Don Bosco. We
owe what we are to Don Bosco and we would gratefully acknowledge our Don Bosco
days as the reason for our success in life.
SSW is a grateful acknowledgment of Don Bosco’s hand in my life. Gratitude to Don
Bosco, who has touched my life and changed it for the better. It is a grateful
fraternity acknowledging acceptance of Don Bosco’s importance in our lives and who
stand up to say “Proud to be a BOSCONIAN”.
SSW is a forum, a fraternity, a movement, that accepts the leadership of Don Bosco
and accepts him as our father and leader and our mentor.
SSW is the answer to our desire to stay close to Don Bosco and belong to him and his family in a more closer and apostolic manner, esp. since we were in
formation houses desiring to live our entire lives with Don Bosco. Well God had
different plans, but he has given us this opportunity to belong to the Don Bosco-
Salesian family.
SSW aims to spread the love of Jesus in the Don Bosco way esp. among ourselves, our
families, our communities and esp. among young people.
SSW is going to be a bandwagon for Don Bosco and his love for the youth and for his
the educational system, by practicing in our lives, the Don Bosco way of life.
SSW would build up the communicative network, so as to keep everyone ‘United”, so
that you can “know and love” others. Memories light up your way and reminiscences
of Don Bosco houses bring in nostalgia in everyone’s minds and SSW is a reminder
of the good old days, days which formed us to be good and to do good. SSW is
providing an opportunity to every member to be a Salesian in the World, living with
all the cares and troubles and opportunities of the world, it beckons each and every
one of us to spread the fragrance of Don Bosco way.
